Aardman has been turning clay into gold for 50 years and counting, becoming an undisputed British institution in the process. The studio’s films and television shows continue to delight fans young and old all over the world.

Despite moving with the times, part of Aardman’s enduring appeal is their commitment to their craft. Stop-motion animation is a painstaking process and provides just three seconds of on-screen footage for a day’s work, which makes iconic scenes like the train chase from Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers (1993) even more impressive.
To celebrate Aardman’s milestone anniversary and the release our new commemorative UK coin, we teamed up with the award-winning trailblazer to transform the Aardman coin design into a playful, stop-motion masterpiece. Here’s some behind-the-scenes stills and footage of how the team at Aardman brought the design to life.
